No — all three Get About products work in any mobile browser. Guests and staff scan a QR code or enter a code at play.getabout.co and everything runs instantly. No download, no account, no friction.
About five minutes the first time. Drop pins on a map, name each checkpoint, set a finish line, schedule a start time. After that, running a new game takes about 60 seconds using a saved preset.
When guests join the lobby before the game starts, they can see who else is waiting and send a pair request. Solo travellers get paired with another solo player — so no one gets left out and everyone makes a new friend.
During the beta, yes — run as many games as you like. Game limits will depend on your plan tier when paid plans launch.
Get About: Guided Tours gives your staff a structured GPS tour to lead guests around the city. Facts unlock automatically at each location — no local knowledge needed. Staff enter a TOUR-XXXX code at play.getabout.co and the tour runs from their phone browser. Managers get GPS-verified proof the tour ran properly.
Get About: Run Club lets you set up morning run routes for guests. Runners check in at waypoints along the route and unlock a discount code at the finish line — redeemable at a partner cafe or your hostel bar. No guide needed. Runs itself.
Self-Guided Tour lets guests explore the city at their own pace, any time of day. Your manager builds a route with stops and facts — just like Guided Tours. Instead of a staff member leading guests around, you print QR codes and place them at each location around the city. Guests scan the QR when they arrive and the facts unlock on their phone. No staff involvement after setup. Runs itself 24 hours a day.
Guided Tours is led by a staff member who walks guests around the city in real time. Self-Guided Tour requires no staff at all after setup. Guests navigate independently, find the QR codes at each location, and check in with GPS — the same way staff do in Guided Tours. The route builder is identical. The difference is who runs it — with Self-Guided Tour, nobody does. It runs itself.
No contracts, no lock-in. The beta is completely free. When paid plans launch, they'll be monthly with no minimum term. We'd rather earn your business every month than trap you in a year-long deal.
Get About works in any city with a Google Maps presence — which is essentially everywhere. You build your own route using real locations in your city, so the game is always local and always relevant to your guests.
Yes. Get About is built on Google Firebase — the same infrastructure used by millions of apps worldwide. Guest data is anonymised and never sold to third parties.
